You play some great stuff. Do you know if Billy Abbott that does "Groovy Baby" was the lead singer from the Pentagons? He sounds a lot like him. Vinnie.
|
|
Hi Vinnie, I do not know if Billy Abbott - who indeed sang "Groovy Baby" like is on Pittsburgh's Favorite Oldies: Lovers Only, Vol. 4 - ever sang with the Pentagons. AMG all Music guide writes about the Pentagons' lineup: "The original lineup featured Joe Jones, Carl McGinnis, Bill James, Otis Munson, and brothers Kenneth Goodloe (lead) and Ted Goodloe and formed in 1958 in San Bernardino, CA, northeast of Los Angeles. Sometime during this early period, Munson left and James was later replaced by Odie Jones, Joe's brother, making for two sets of brothers in the Pentagons' lineup."
Papa.

Let me tell You.......Your Station brings back so many memories Good and Bad.
U see...I come from NY and 77 WABC was the ultimate in music and its personalities. Dan Ingram, Cousin brucie and the others. It went with me to the Beach, Palisades Park, NJ and to Vietnam. The Station sent me tapes of the shows while I was in Nam with the 101st Airborne Div.
Thank You for a fine Station and Keep the Faith! SSgt Al Zanetti (Ret).

I'm not really a letter writer, but just had to tell you how much I
enjoy listening to your Doo Wops.
As a teenager during the 1958-1962 period, this was our music and I
have rediscovered those sounds and still love them. I grew up with Dion and the Belmonts (they were neighbors) and am fixated on "white doo wop." I have an extensive collection of 45's and LPs from that era and 2 jukeboxes...and a 1958 Dodge. Thanks for the memories. Len Glass.

You truly are a Doo-wop Jukebox Gold fan Len!

Might you have access to "Blanche" by The Three Friends?
Believe it was in the 1956/7 era, but am not positive. Many thanks. Love your station and play it exclusively at home and work. These were truly the "Happy Days"!!! Diane.

The song you are looking for is called Loneliness of night and the artist are "The Roomates", a British neo doowop group. But they are not the Roomates from The 60`s Roomates. Greetz. Alex

Hi Alex! Thanks so much for your help on this! I will notify Steve and all others who wrote me about this song. I know they will appreciate it.
